Project: Genes driving Aneuploidy-Associated Phenotypes in Response to DNA-Damaging Agents
  • Aneuploidy, characterized by an abnormal chromosome number, is not only a consequence but also a cause of genome instability. Over 90% of solid human tumors are aneuploid. While it often reduces cellular fitness and sensitizes cells to stress conditions like DNA damage, certain aneuploidies (or their combinations) can be benificial in detrimental environments.
  • DNA-damaging anticancer drugs, like hydroxyurea and bleomycin, typically have a strong effect on aneuploid cells in relation to normal cells. However, the exact molecular determinants behind the aneuploid phenotype on the DNA-Damaging agents were not known.
  • The goal of my project in the Campbell Lab was to identify key pathways in the drug-specific DNA-damage response of aneuploid budding yeast and propose mechanisms of action. We constructed an S. cerevisiae library that divides aneuploid chromosomes into ~75-kb fragments, covering ~90% of the genome. This revealed five chromosomal regions driving drug-specific aneuploidy phenotypes across multiple DNA-damaging agents (HU, MMS, CPT, phleomycin). A subcut collection enabled further narrowing of those loci, and targeted deletions of over 40 candidate genes (alone and in combinations) identified six key contributors across three chromosomes.

  • Since august 2025 I am developing a free-to-use DNA code editor together with Charles Zhang. It already includes features like sequence find, sequence edit, feature annotation, orf detection, sequence alignment and restriction enzyme site detection.

Lab Project: Bir1 Deletion in Meiosis
My project at the Campbell Lab, supervised Ananya Dodamani, focused on investigating the role of Bir1 (a chromosomal passenger complex protein and human survivin homolog) during meiosis in the SK1 yeast strain. The project aimed to understand how Bir1 deletion affects meiotic progression, chromosome segregation, and spore viability. Key aspects of the project included:
  • Engineering Bir1 homozygous deletion SK1 strain: Used genetic engineering techniques to generate and verify the deletion of both copies of the Bir1 gene in a diploid yeast strain.
  • Inducing sporulation of the diploid strain
  • Meiotic Phenotype check (Spore formation, spore viability, chromosome missegregation rates by measuring the nuclei sizes in bi- and tetra-nucleates)

YouTube channel dedicated to explaining various concepts of biology
Created a YouTube channel in late 2023 with the aim of assisting fellow students who encounter challenges in comprehending biological concepts.

CogniQuiz App project
The idea behind my app was to create a tool for the students all over the world to help their learning. The main principle of this app was to enable users to create flashcards of various types to memorize any concepts in the fields of their studies. My app allowed users to:
  • Create Flashcards, save them into folders and practice them with spaced repetition
  • Create communities and share their notes and flashcards through the cloud
  • Set up daily repetition goal and enter the exam date to optimize learning for a specific period of time

Research: The Effect of Levomycetin and Streptomycin on the suppression of E. coli
In this school research project, I investigated the effectiveness of Levomycetin and Streptomycin in suppressing the growth of E. coli bacteria. The study involved conducting experiments to evaluate the inhibitory effects of these antibiotics on bacterial growth rates as well as the resistance of bacteria against the two types of medication. The primary goal was to determine which antibiotic is more effective against E. coli.
  • I conducted this research as the first student to work in the newly upgraded biology lab, a project I helped design and secure funding for as part of a team that won 3 million rubles through the “Your School Budget” competition.

Speech on Science Day : "Modern methods of oncological treatment"
This presentation included researching the variety of available methods of oncological treatment, as well as understanding the underlying mechanisms, to break down the concepts into understandable terms.

Kvell app UI/UX junior software developer
In late 2021, I had the opportunity to work on the user interface of the Kvell medical platform app. Kvell.App is a medical search engine and health platform that offers personalized wellness plans and essential tools for tracking and improving health by combining biomarkers, mental health screenings, lifestyle analysis, and expert resources. Although the startup lacked sufficient funding to continue operating, the experience gave me valuable insight into integration of software and healthcare.

As a lab technician at my school, I provided essential support for inorganic chemistry experiments during classes, assisting in various tasks to ensure their successful and safe completion.
2020
Grant-Winning Biology Classroom Modernization Project
In 2019, my team of four high school students won first place in the district as part of the “Your School Budget” competition with a project to upgrade the biology classroom at my School No. 197. Our success secured 3 million rubles in government funding, enabling a full renovation of the classroom. Some facts about it:
  • Our goal was to write an appealing proposal to claim the government funding, competing with more than a dozen of schools in our district.
  • We spent almost half of our academic year working on the proposal and equipment list for the competition.
  • This project meant a lot to our group, as this classroom and all the equipment is still used to this day to educate future doctors and researchers studying in out school
  • I had an opportunity to be the first person to run my graduation research project in the new biology lab
  • It was the first time our school has won a grant in this competition
